A clearer photo gives the measurements a fair chance

Aim for a repeatable photograph, not a flattering one. You can complete a scan with the front view alone.

Front photo setupFace straight toward a camera level with the eyes. Keep the whole forehead and chin inside the frame.Camera at eye level
Front: look straight ahead, with both eyes visible and your head level. This is a schematic, not a target face.
Side photo setupTurn ninety degrees so one ear faces the camera. Keep the forehead, nose, chin and jaw outline visible without lifting the chin.Turn 90°, chin level
Side, optional: turn all the way sideways. Avoid a three-quarter view or stretching your chin forward.

Before pressing capture

  1. Find even light. Face a window or a soft light. Avoid a bright window behind you, hard side shadows and coloured lighting.
  2. Keep the camera level and give it distance. A very close selfie changes apparent proportions. Step back and crop the photo if needed, keeping enough detail for the landmarks. Use the same lens and similar distance for rescans.
  3. Keep the full outline visible. Include your forehead, both cheeks and chin. Move hair away where comfortable and remove glasses or a hood if they hide points. If an outline remains covered, do not invent its position.
  4. Relax your expression. Lips resting, no smile, jaw unclenched. Hold the phone steady or prop it safely and use the countdown.

Camera distance is not a cosmetic detail: Ward and colleagues' 2018 photographic study demonstrates how short-distance photographs change apparent nasal proportions. That supports consistent capture conditions, not a claim that a phone photo recovers true three-dimensional anatomy.

Add a side, retake it or skip

After the front photo, choose whether you want a side view. For a side capture, turn 90 degrees and keep your head level. Leave one ear, the forehead, nose, lips and chin visible. You can attach an existing photo instead.

On the placement preview, check the points against the actual outline. Use Retake photo if the image is blurry, cropped or not fully sideways. Use Skip side to continue with a front-only report. Place the points yourself if the photo is clear but a point is off. Retaking is better than forcing a point onto an obscured feature.

Three things to check on the side preview

Manual review can correct placement, but it cannot turn a three-quarter photo into a true side view or reveal bone under the skin. Read what the measurements can and cannot establish.

For a useful rescan

Keep the device, lens, distance, light and expression similar. Compare the same capture type: front-only with front-only, or front plus side with front plus side. A small line movement can be capture noise; it is not proof of fat loss, a treatment response or a structural change.

You choose the upload boundary

Front analysis runs on-device. Side-point cloud placement is optional and requires consent; on-device placement remains available. Feedback and adult Max Goal previews ask separately. See the three choices and retention summary.

Ready when you are

Take the front photo first. Decide about the side afterwards.
