What a face score can tell you
A face score is useful when it explains its inputs. It becomes misleading when one unexplained number is presented as a universal verdict.
What is a face score?
A face score converts a set of visible measurements into a common scale. Those measurements can include facial thirds, jaw angle, eye spacing, symmetry and the relationship between features. A responsible score says which measurements were used, which reference population they were compared with and when image quality made a measurement unreliable.
TrueMax reports its overall result on a 0 to 10 scale and keeps population percentile separate. The score describes agreement with the app's reference ranges. The percentile describes where that result sits in the selected reference population. They are related, but they are not interchangeable.
How do face rating apps work?
- Find facial landmarks. A model locates points around the eyes, nose, lips, jaw and other visible structures.
- Normalise the photograph. The app accounts for image size and uses stable facial distances so a larger photo does not create larger measurements.
- Calculate proportions and angles. Landmark positions become interpretable facial measurements.
- Compare with reference data. Each usable measurement is compared with the relevant reference range.
- Report the result and its limits. Weak or unavailable measurements should be marked rather than quietly treated as certain.
Why can the same face receive different scores?
A photograph is not the face itself. A phone held too close can enlarge the centre of the face. A raised or lowered camera changes apparent proportions. Expression moves the eyes, lips and jaw. Hard side lighting can make symmetry look different. Filters can alter the input before analysis begins.
For a more repeatable result, use even front lighting, a neutral expression, a level camera and enough distance to avoid wide-angle distortion. Remove glasses and keep hair away from the facial outline. When tracking change, use the same camera position and lighting each time.
Can an app tell me how attractive I am?
It can describe measurable geometry and compare it with a stated reference. It cannot measure chemistry, movement, voice, expression, style, confidence or individual preference. Those are major parts of real-world attraction. No face score is a universal measure of a person's attractiveness.
How to use the result well
Look for patterns rather than fixating on the total. Separate structural measurements from changeable presentation. Hair, facial hair, skin care, body composition, sleep, posture, expression and photography can affect appearance without pretending bone structure changed overnight.
Start with the highest-impact change that is safe, affordable and reversible. Recheck under comparable conditions. If a concern involves skin disease, dental health, breathing, pain or body-image distress, an app is not the right professional. Speak with a qualified clinician.
